Our Graduates… A Success Story | Episode 22

Sama Ali Sadiq — 17th cohort · 2020–2021
MSc student in Pharmacology and Toxicology — University of Baghdad

“Ambition despite challenges.”

Her journey in one sentence

From the classroom to the fields of teaching and scientific research… a journey that began with graduation, continued with giving and ambition, and whose chapters are still being written with knowledge and achievement.

Her story in her own words

My story began after I graduated in the top quarter of my cohort from Baghdad College of Medical Sciences in 2021, when I moved from being a student to giving back as a teaching assistant at the College. The journey was not easy; I faced simultaneous responsibilities and challenges between academic work, teaching, practical experience and continuous self-development, alongside my family and personal responsibilities. My biggest challenge was to keep pursuing my academic ambition and balance my different responsibilities without letting circumstances stand in the way of my progress. Over these years I learned that success does not always come in easy steps, and that persevering despite fatigue is itself an achievement. Every difficult experience made me more determined, mature and confident in my abilities. Today, as I continue my master’s studies, I believe the most beautiful part of the journey is not only arriving, but seeing how every step has shaped me.

Pharmacist Sama Ali Sadiq’s advice to today’s students

“Make science your passion, and don’t settle for what you learn in the lecture hall; pharmacy is a constantly evolving science that requires continuous learning. Trust your abilities and make the most of every chance for training and experience — every small step today can make a big difference in your professional future.”

A word to her College

All thanks and gratitude to Baghdad College of Medical Sciences and the Pharmacy Department for the knowledge, support and opportunities they gave me, which were an important foundation of my academic and professional career. I hope to keep giving back part of this through my work, self-development and contribution to serving the College and its students, and that our College always remains an environment that nurtures knowledge, ambition and the building of competencies.
