Speech by the Head of the Department of Pharmacy
Pharmacy is a discipline that stands at the intersection between medicine and the patient. It begins with an understanding of the composition of medications and their mechanisms of action, and ultimately culminates in their effects on the human body. This is what makes the study of pharmacy a responsibility before it is a profession.
At the Department of Pharmacy, College of Baghdad Medical Sciences, we build this understanding progressively: beginning with the basic sciences in the early years, followed by pharmacology, pharmaceutics, and pharmaceutical chemistry, and culminating in clinical pharmacy and practical training, where students are exposed to real-life clinical cases. This educational process is supported by highly qualified academic staff holding advanced degrees, as well as well-equipped laboratories that transform theoretical lectures into practical learning experiences.
Our work extends beyond teaching; scientific research is an integral component of the Department’s academic activities. We are committed to engaging students in research from an early stage, enabling them to learn not only how to acquire and utilize scientific knowledge, but also how to contribute to its generation and advancement.
We aspire for our graduates to become pharmacists who can be relied upon in hospitals, community pharmacies, pharmaceutical industries, and laboratories, equipped with a strong scientific foundation that enables them to keep pace with the continuous evolution of a profession that is constantly changing.
