Pharmacy Department Structure
Department of Pharmacy
The Department of Pharmacy, established in 2000 by the Iraqi Pharmacists Syndicate, offers a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The program prepares competent pharmacists to work in community pharmacies, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies through a four-year curriculum that combines theoretical education with practical training.
Head of the Pharmacy Department:
- Presiding over the Department Council and appointing the department rapporteur.
- Direct supervision of the department to ensure the proper progress of the educational process.
- Direct supervision of the scientific research plan and the management of research in the department, and submitting them to the dean’s office.
- – Chairing the scientific committees in the department in accordance with the regulations and guidelines.
– Developing specialized plans and organizing the department’s work in accordance with the Ministry’s instructions- Overseeing twinning programs with public universities.
- Supervising departmental conferences and seminars, and encouraging faculty to attend local and international events.
- – Conducting annual performance evaluations of the department’s faculty and requesting letters of appreciation for outstanding cases.
- – Exercising the powers of the Head of Department in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
- Exercising the authority related to student attendance and administering examinations in accordance with the applicable regulations.
- Assigning teaching duties according to specialization.
- Assigning faculty members to committee tasks within the department.
- – Facilitating the provision of supplies and equipment for the department’s laboratories.
- – Submitting proposals that contribute to the development of the department’s work and help enhance the scientific level.
- – Supervising students’ summer training and hospital training.
The department consists of three specialized scientific branches, namely:
First: Therapeutics and Clinical Pharmacy Branch
This branch focuses on teaching Pharmacology, Toxicology, Physiology, and Clinical Pharmacy. It aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of drug effects on body systems, optimal dosages, side effects, as well as skills in assessing the patient’s clinical condition.

Additional Notes: The branch oversees clinical field training in hospitals and health centers, and includes a number of specialized laboratories that support the practical aspect of the courses.
Second: Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy Branch
This branch focuses on teaching subjects related to medicinal chemistry and drug analysis, in addition to pharmacognosy of plant-based drugs. It aims to enable students to understand the chemical structure of pharmaceutical compounds, extract active ingredients from plants, and chemically analyze drugs to ensure their quality. Additional Notes : The branch includes various laboratories such as general, analytical, and pharmaceutical chemistry labs, in addition to the pharmacognosy lab, providing an integrated practical environment to support the applied aspect of the theoretical courses.
Third: Pharmaceutics Branch
This branch teaches the principles of dosage form preparation, bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, drug design, and pharmaceutical biotechnology. Subjects Taught by the Branch:
