Midwifery Department

The Midwifery Department at Baghdad College of Medical Sciences was established for the academic
year 2025–2026 in response to the urgent need for preparing scientifically and practically qualified midwives in the
fields of midwifery and obstetrics, with the aim of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates.
The department seeks to prepare graduates capable of providing comprehensive preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative healthcare for mothers, children, families, and the community, and to enhance the overall health status of women during the reproductive age and beyond.
The department also aims to improve the quality of health services provided to women before marriage, during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, as well as to newborns. This is achieved through academic programs aligned with the mission of Baghdad College of Medical Sciences to prepare qualified personnel capable of delivering high-quality and exemplary healthcare services to mothers, newborns, and families in the community and healthcare institutions.
Furthermore, the department is dedicated to graduating students who are capable of taking responsibility, advancing the profession of midwifery, and demonstrating a full understanding of social conditions and adherence to ethical and religious guidelines.
