On September 14, 2000, the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research was issued in accordance with the provisions of Article (38) of the Universities and Private Colleges Law No. 13 of 1996, as amended by Law No. 57 of 2002, to establish the Baghdad College of Medical Sciences. The college is distinguished as a private scientific institution of public benefit and has a personal identity. It enjoys moral, financial and administrative independence with all the rights and privileges stipulated in the law. The college is also subject to scientific and educational supervision by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The college is founded by the Iraqi Pharmacists Syndicate.

The department aims to develop pharmaceutical education in a way that ensures the use of pharmaceutical sciences to serve society by preparing multi-talented, professionally and scientifically qualified pharmaceutical cadres to help develop and grow society. The duration of study in the Department of Pharmacy is no less than five years to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, including practical training in hospitals, health institutions, and private pharmacies.
