As part of the activities of Baghdad College of Medical Sciences \/ Nursing Department\u2026<\/div>\n
An online workshop was conducted in collaboration with the School of Nursing \/ George Washington University, USA, entitled:<\/div>\n
\u201cPreparing Faculty for This Type of Education \u2013 TBL: Team-Based Learning,\u201d held on Tuesday, 12 October 2021, via the Zoom platform. <\/div>\n
Conducted by Dr. Angela McNiels and Dr. Magda Al-Banna from George Washington University, with the session chaired by Dr. Wafaa Abdulkarim Abbas from the Nursing Department, Baghdad College of Medical Sciences.<\/div>\n
This type of education is an organized form of small-group learning that emphasizes student preparation outside the classroom and the application of knowledge within it. Students are divided into diverse teams of 5\u20137 members who work together on all course materials before each unit of the curriculum, preparing by reading prior to class.<\/div>\n
In the first session of the unit, students participate in a \u201cReadiness Assurance Process.\u201d <\/div>\n
They then complete the test with their group members, called the \u201cGroup Readiness Assurance Test.\u201d<\/div>\n
Both individual scores and group results contribute to the students\u2019 grades. Typically, they are <\/div>\n
Multiple-choice tests, and students often complete the group test using a sheet. <\/div>\n
\u201cScantron,\u201d marking their own answers, which reduces grading time and enhances student discussion. <\/div>\n
for the correct answers.<\/div>\n
After students complete the group test, the instructor encourages the teams to revisit the questions that <\/div>\n
they answered incorrectly. The appeal process encourages students to review the course material. <\/div>\n
and assess their understanding while defending the choices they made.<\/div>\n
To conclude the Readiness Assurance Process, the instructor delivers a brief lecture focusing on the concepts that students struggle with the most. <\/div>\n
Many faculty members from both the Pharmacy and Nursing Departments of the college participated in the workshop.<\/div>\n
